Inside Shadow Box Wedding Card

My significant other needed a card for a co-worker's wedding.  The front of the card was inspired by Freshly Made Sketches #340.  The interior is an Inside Shadow Box that I learned how to do from a YouTube video by Jennifer McGuire Ink.

Stamps:  Stampin Up Beautiful Ride, Sunshine & Rainbows, Adventure Awaits
Inks: Stampin Up Soft Sky, Pool Party, Garden Green, Basic Black, VersaMark with Stampin Up White emboss powder
Dies: Stampin Up Rainbow Builder Thinlits, Oval Framelits, Squares Framelits
Cardstock: Stampin Up Whisper White, Garden Green
Pattern Paper:  Stampin Up Coffee Break Designer Paper, Carried Away Designer Paper
Embellishments: Stampin Up Metallic Thread, non-Stampin Up enamel dots

Here are the steps to make the card with some pictures.  I find it a bit confusing in print and really liked the way Jennifer McGuire demonstrated the technique in her video.  I suggest you practice with cheap paper or cardstock before you decorate the card so you don't waste time and supplies re-doing things.

1.  Cut an 8 1/2" X 11" piece of Whisper White cardstock in half and score each half in the middle.  2.  Cut 1/2" off one piece, this is the "front piece" of the card with the one side longer then the other.
3.  Score the other piece, the "inside piece" at 1/2" from the cut side and 1/2" from the center score line.
4.  Cut a small strip (~1/8") off the 1/2" fold to on the inside piece and cut a window out of the inside piece that is surrounded by the 1/2" folds.
5.  Add tear tape to the 1/2" fold at the end.
6.  Open the front piece and place the 1/2" end of the inside piece right up to the front piece middle score line with the longer side to the left and the shorter side to the right.
7.  Remove the tear tape protective strip and fold the longer front piece side over the inside piece to stick them together.  This is adhering the 1/2" fold to the longer side of the front piece.

This is where you decorate the short half of the front piece as this will become the background of the box.  You can decorate this after the box is created but it is much more difficult after everything is together.

8.  Turn the whole thing over and fold the short end of the front piece over the cut out area of the inside piece.

9.  Put adhesive on the back of the short side of the front piece and fold the full (non-window) side of the inside piece over the adhesive with the 1/2 inch fold flattened over it.

HINT:  I'm not an exact cutter so things often don't fit together nicely at first.  I find it easier on this step to only put a smidge of glue on the back of the front piece short side to temporarily adhere the full half of the inside piece down.  Then I unfold and unfold the card to make sure the box opens correctly, trimming what needs to be trimmed.  Once I'm happy I put lots of adhesive on the short side and stick it down permanently.
That's it! I hope this was not too confusing.  :-)  I really like this card since it fits into a regular card envelope but looks fancy!

Until next time ....

Pop-up Mice Birthday

Welcome back!  My granddaughter's 7th birthday is coming up so it's time to try another interactive card.  I decided to use my Lawn Fawn pop-up platform dies for the first time and some of their mouse stamps.  Last year I made her a card with mice so this continues that theme a little and the mice are so very super cute.  I love how so many of the Lawn Fawn mouse sets are the same size and you can mix-n-match them! CASE'd  Birthday Mouse Party  for the general scene idea.  For the mouse flying over on a paper airplane, I attached it to a tiny strip of acetate.  The platform itself was pretty easy to assemble but I could have done better getting the most use out of the cardstock. I think I got a bit over zealous with the mice and extras and made the card too busy but it's still cute! Thanks for poppin' by. Spring May Flowers

Not a card or paper .... Happy Spring & May Day! My family has the tradition of making and distributing baskets of candy to the neighbors for May Day.  While I'm not making the candy baskets this year, I offered to make Spring decorations for the neighborhood sign posts. I found a great wooden cutout company, Woodpeckers Crafts , that delivered 20 flowers, 10 tulips & 10 daisies, within a few days.  I used my existing outdoor acrylic paints, masking tape and wipees to quickly paint the flowers as colorful Tulips and Gerbera Daisies.  I used a drill press to drill a hole in the tops of the flowers for a metal ring and covered the flowers with Outdoor Mod Podge to protect the wood and paint from the weather. This was a lot of fun, didn't take too long and was a nice break from my normal handmade card crafts.  My next painting project will be cutouts for the 4th of July.   Thanks for poppin' by! The end product.  Painted, shellacked and ready to h...

Magical Unicorn See-Thru Shaker

Here's another cute card for one of my "littles" ... My grandniece turned 2 this year.  I wanted to make her a card with a simple interactive element and shaker cards are the best for that, in my humble opinion ... nothing to move that could tear up the card. 😂  I also wanted to stretch my crafting skills a bit and step it up from normal shaker cards so I decided on making a see-thru shaker.  With that decided, I went to my handy dandy stash of saved and unused Freshly Made Sketches designs and picked #FMS358 .  Next, I looked through the splitcoaststampers.com past color challenges for a "girly" color combo and chose #CC1004 .  Lastly, I looked through my Big Book of Stamps and found the rarely used SSS Magical Birthday set ... I actually think I used this stamp set to dress up the brown wrapping paper on her present last year, hmmm, theme? BTW , my handmade card related hobbies are BUYING stamps and dies, ORGANIZING stamps and dies and USING stamps and dies....
