Harry Potter Birthday Surprise

Another interactive card for a grandchild... My grandchildren love Harry Potter so I decided to create a card around that AND add an interactive element. Quite a while ago, I bought a Confetti Flinger die set so I finally made the time to figure it out.  It took me a few trials and failures but I finally got the flinger to work.  Yay!  The keys seem to be making sure the shorter end of the flinger is at the bottom and using glassine paper to hold the confetti. I had to cut up a postage stamp envelope since I didn't have any glassine in my craft supplies. I was so so excited when I got it to fling reliably.  To help keep everything together until he has it in his hands, I put a little bit of temporary adhesive on the corners.  hee hee For the front design, I wanted a bouquet of balloons but with the Harry Potter twist.  I bought and downloaded some clipart and then used the design from Freshly Made Sketches #FMS362. I really like the end result.  What ...

Masculine Locomotive Birthday

Good day! Here is my latest creation.  I needed a masculine birthday card for my husband. I had pinned this handmade card a while back, CASE  Stampin' Chez Moi , so I thought I'd CASE it.  I also decided to use  Freshly Made Sketches   design #FMS360 and the color combo from  splitcoaststampers  #CC1025.  I wanted colors that were masculine but not dull and the pop of red in this combo worked great. The overall design and execution turned out relatively simple and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. What do you think? Have a spectacular day! Card Recipe Stamps:  SU! Baby Shower Thanks

Welcome to another day of ramblings .... One of my sisters started a local Enbrace Grace group at her church.  I love the message of this ministry, especially since I too was single and pregnant.  I dealt with a lot of loneliness and guilt associated with my situation while also happily anticipating this new role in my life as mother.  So, when she told me she was going to be a part of such an important mission, I offered to help however she needed me.   Apparently, my card making skills are what is needed. 😊  This is my third set of baby shower Thank You cards.  I was asked to make 50 cards this time.  I try to create a simple, easily assembled design and make each slightly different. A while back, I saved a baby card with BABY spelled out with alphabet blocks.  I thought this was adorable, and someday I'll CASE that card 😊, but for now, I wanted to spell out THANKS on baby blocks across a piece of baby pattern paper from a stack I've bee...

Anniversary Chemistry

Welcome back! I found this stamp set years ago and haven't used it much.  I thought it was the perfect set for my husband and me since we are both engineers ... just a bit of geek.  While going through my saved pins for inspiration, I found this one,  Great Chemistry , and decided to CASE it but use the design from  Freshly Made Sketches   #FMS356 and color combo #CC972 from  splitco aststampers . I  cut out and stacked three beakers under each beaker for a little bit of dimension and stability.  I also put SU! dimensionals under the sentiment. I think it turned out pretty cute.  I'm going to use this stamp set and dies again.  What do you think? Thanks for stopping by.  😀 Card Recipe Stamps:  Clearly Besotted Scientifically Speaking Punches & Dies:    Clearly Besotted Scientifically Speaking,  SU! Succulent Birthday

Hi-Dee-Ho Good Neighbor .... ( Hee Hee, I think I just aged myself with that reference to Home Improvement. ) My adult daughter is having a birthday and I needed to make her a card.  She said she's trying to leave childish things behind, like her love of Belle from Beauty & the Beast and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  And while I do not understand doing that   😉   I respect her decision and had to come up with a more adult theme for her birthday card this year.  Her home is decorated with outdoorsy mountain themes and succulents with her colors being dusty pink, green, white and gold.  I decided to lean into that.  So I pulled out my supply spreadsheet and Big Book of Stamps and found some stamps sets that applied. Using an older design,  Freshly Made Sketches  #FMS361, and an older color combo,  splitcoaststampers  #CC1018, I came up with this card.  I don't have SU! Pretty In Pink ink or paper so I subbed Blushing Br...

Blogging Once Again - Acorny Thanksgiving

Hello again. It's been quite some time since I've created a post here without backdating it, hee hee.  I thought I'd try to get back to it.  I've not posted much ever because I don't think anyone reads it but at least I have this place to capture my thoughts and activities. My husband, dog and I are settling into our new home in Northwoods Wisconsin.  It has taken so very much longer than I ever imagined to unpack, sort, fix things up and make them work for us.  We're getting closer but there's still a lot to do.  I'm trying to squeeze creating and crafting in between house stuff and my full time job.  I'm very blessed to be able to work from home so no complaints there.  No more 40 min commute each way, every day.  Yay! I've continued crafting, just not blogging about it.  For my creative outlet, I've been primarily making handmade greeting cards.  My stash of stamps and dies and designer pattern paper has continued to grow.  😊 Si...

Bridal Shower

Welcome back! I almost forgot to make my nephew's fiancé a bridal shower card.  Since her mother makes handmade cards also, I surely can't neglect making one for this occasion.  I'd look like a total slacker, which I often am but that's beside the point. 😁 In my usual fashion, I decided to CASE a pinterest bridal shower card, which AGAIN I forgot to save the link to, and then combined it with a saved and unused Freshly Make Sketches design, #FMS357.  For the sentiment,  I glued together 3 layers for each letter for some dimension and put the letters on a bit wonky to add a bit of whimsy to this simple card. I think it turned out pretty and classy.  Plus, I used some of my horded pattern paper.  It's a win-win. Thanks for taking a look. Noble Father's Day

After making Mother's Day cards for my family and friends, I wanted to make Father's Day cards for my male family and friends with human and furry children as well.  That didn't happen BUT I am ready for Father's Day 2025!!  😀 I started this creation with a previously pinned masculine card as inspiration  Masculine Birthday Card .  I picked one of my oldest saved Freshly Made Sketches , #FMS355, and a Color Challenge from splitcoaststampers , #CC428. Using Color Challenges is a lot of fun to me.  I have to figure out which colors should be where and what neutrals I may need to use.  It really has been a great tool to stretch my skills and aid me in picking non-clashing colors.  😂😁 This card was selected as a  splitcoaststampers Weekly Favorite on August 24, 2024.  Again, I feel deeply honored and humbled that others, besides my family, appreciate my efforts. I hope you enjoy this card! Card Recipe Stamps:   SU! Noble Deer, SU! Paper ...

Magical Unicorn See-Thru Shaker

Here's another cute card for one of my "littles" ... My grandniece turned 2 this year.  I wanted to make her a card with a simple interactive element and shaker cards are the best for that, in my humble opinion ... nothing to move that could tear up the card. 😂  I also wanted to stretch my crafting skills a bit and step it up from normal shaker cards so I decided on making a see-thru shaker.  With that decided, I went to my handy dandy stash of saved and unused Freshly Made Sketches designs and picked #FMS358 .  Next, I looked through the splitcoaststampers.com past color challenges for a "girly" color combo and chose #CC1004 .  Lastly, I looked through my Big Book of Stamps and found the rarely used SSS Magical Birthday set ... I actually think I used this stamp set to dress up the brown wrapping paper on her present last year, hmmm, theme? BTW , my handmade card related hobbies are BUYING stamps and dies, ORGANIZING stamps and dies and USING stamps and dies....

Ice Skating Reveal Wheel

Welcome back to my ramblings ... My granddaughter's 6th birthday was coming up and I wanted to make her a special birthday card.  She recently started taking figure skating classes and really loving it.  That brought to mind the Mice on Ice stamp set from Lawn Fawn.  I bought the stamp set because those mice are so darn cute ... and the ice skating, of course, since I love winter and most winter activities.  BUT I hadn't used them in a card yet so this was the perfect opportunity.  I also wanted to add some sort of interactive element to the card and remembered the Reveal Wheel dies I have rarely, if ever, used.  So there you go, the thought process.  😁 I kept thinking the mice should be on a frozen pond or lake, that's where I'd prefer to ice skate, but that's not where figure skating is taught so I looked at a lot of cartoon hockey rinks to figure out how to draw one on this card AND make the reveal wheel element work.  I think I figured it out...

Otterly Wobbley Birthday

Good Day! I try to make my step-grandkids cards that are meaningful to them.  They're young and don't REALLY appreciate them for longer than, oh, 2 minutes maybe.  However, for me, it's about letting them know I see them, who they are right here and now. One of my grandsons turned 8 this year.  He loves otters so I broke out this Stampin Up stamp set and got to work.  Scouring my stash of old unused Freshly Made Sketches, I chose design #FMS354.  His favorite color is orange so I also searched splitcoaststampers.com color challenges for a color combo that included orange, #CC983 was the "winner".  To add a bit of fun, I put the otter on an action wobble.  Those are so easy to use and really step-up a card, especially for kids and kids-at-heart like me.  😜  I used a polka dot stencil and embossing paste on white cardstock for the primary background with light blue cardstock as a neutral frame around that but the light blue doesn't really sho...

Flourishing Mother's Day

I thought I'd blog on a few of the cards I've made in the past year ... the ones I am particularly proud of.  Sometimes the idea in my head doesn't come out in a card very well but sometimes it does! Since my mother died several years ago, I haven't been making or sending Mother's Day cards recently.  This year, I decided to make Mother's Day cards for all my female family and friends who were mothers in some sense ... human or critter children.  In my usual manner, I looked through my old pins in Pinterest and found one I wanted to CASE (copy and share everything) but now I can't find my inspiration card again.  I then went to my saved Freshly Made Sketches designs to find one that fit what I was thinking, #FMS351. Lastly, I went to splitcoaststampers  color challenges and picked a combination I wanted to try, #CC991. This card was selected as a splitcoaststampers CAS (Clean And Simple) Favorite on April 20, 2024.  I am very honored to be selected and ha...

Bicycling Fun

At my previous house, I did NOT have a very good system of storing ephemera and embellishments and washi tape, so I seldom used them, I just forgot I had them.   I had just been working on sorting and organizing my craft room after our recent move, when my husband asked if I would make a funny get well card for his friend who recently wiped out on a bicycle. While looking for bicycle stamps and dies, I realized there was an adorable bicycle stamp set where I hadn't used all the stamps.  Some ideas came to mind for cards with this partially used stamp set and the recently discovered washi tape, ephemera and card bases.   This card was one of the results.  I still haven't used all the stamps in the set because I ran out of room on the card.  😂 I followed a saved design from Freshly Made Sketches , #FMS353.  I posted this card in the splitcoaststampers gallery and it was selected as a splitcoaststamper Weekly Favorite on April 7, 2024.  I am s...

Encouragement Cards

Hello! I recently organized my craft supplies in a way that allows me to better see what I have available.  After making the Captain Klutz card, I realized there were some stamp sets and dies I hadn't used much.  This card is the result of those discoveries. I found two card bases left over from my July 2020 Stampin Up Paper Pumpkin kit and wanted to somehow use them with the Bike Ride stamps.  I looked through my saved and unused stash of Freshly Made Sketches, finding that #FMS352 looked a little like a road to me.  So, I scoured my pattern paper scraps for something that looked like a street and found two strips.  These were so simple to make and it's so very nice to use scraps and leftovers.  Isn't it? I hope you like the simplicity of these cards and feel encouraged to use up some of your scraps as well. Thanks for looking! Card Recipe Stamps:   SU!
