Interactive Waving Card

Another interactive card adventure.

The hand waves as the card is opened and closed.

A co-worker asked if I could make some Thank You cards that had his son waving as the card was opened.  I told him "well, I can try".  This is what I came up with.

Supplies

·        Stamps:  Stampin Up For Being You

·        Punch:  small circle

·        Inks: VersaMark

·        Cardstock: Stampin Up Whisper White, Basic Black

·        Pattern Paper:  non-Stampin Up patriotic

·        Misc: stampin' dimensional or disc, small brad, Stampin Up Gold embossing powder, sheet of acetate

Steps

·        Using Word, I printed a photo, 4 to a page on Whisper White cardstock using my color laser printer.  I cut the lower left corner (where the mechanism will pass through) off the picture.

·        I found a .jpg of a hand waving and added a checked pattern to it with PhotoShop.  Using Word, I printed 9 edited arms to a page on Whisper White cardstock and fussy cut the arms out.

·        I cut an A2 (4.25" x 5.5") cardbase from Whisper White cardstock.

·        I punched a hole in the arm of the picture and glued a disc to the back of the waving arm.  Instead of a disc, I could have used a dimensional that was small enough to fit in the punched hole.

·        I turned the picture over and stuck the disc on the waving arm through the hole.

·        I cut some acetate into a 1/2" strip and poked a hole in one end with my paper piercer.  The strip needed to be long enough to reach from the disc past the folded edge of the card.  I attached a small piece of thin ribbon to the acetate strip with tear tape about 1/2" in on the none hole side.  With the arm in the desired position when the card is fully open, the ribbon plus acetate strip should be able to reach past the card fold to the other side of the card base.

·        I cut a 1/2" strip of cardstock long enough to span disc and acetate strip mechanism and poked a hole in one end with my paper piercer.  I attached the 1/2" strips of cardstock and acetate together with a loosely fastened brad.

·        Using temporary adhesive, I played with the lengths of the 1/2" strips until the mechanism worked properly when the cardstock strip is glued to the disc and the ribbon is glued to the opposite side of the card base.  I had to snip the acetate strip a little on the ribbon end to allow the cardbase to fold flat.

·        Once I had the placement and lengths working, I used tear tape to adhere the cardstock strip permanently to the disc and the ribbon to the opposite side of the card base.

·        I then decorated the front of the card.  I used some patriotic non-Stampin Up pattern paper, stamped THANKS with VersaMark then heat embossed it with Gold embossing powder on Basic Black cardstock.

·        I thought the photo inside the card would look nice with a woodgrain frame around it but my friend thought that was overkill.  😄

If you try this technique and find some improvements to my steps, please comment below and let me know.  I love learning new and better ways to craft and/or make cards.

Thanks for sharing in my card making adventures!

Pop-up Mice Birthday

Welcome back!  My granddaughter's 7th birthday is coming up so it's time to try another interactive card.  I decided to use my Lawn Fawn pop-up platform dies for the first time and some of their mouse stamps.  Last year I made her a card with mice so this continues that theme a little and the mice are so very super cute.  I love how so many of the Lawn Fawn mouse sets are the same size and you can mix-n-match them! CASE'd  Birthday Mouse Party  for the general scene idea.  For the mouse flying over on a paper airplane, I attached it to a tiny strip of acetate.  The platform itself was pretty easy to assemble but I could have done better getting the most use out of the cardstock. I think I got a bit over zealous with the mice and extras and made the card too busy but it's still cute! Thanks for poppin' by. Spring May Flowers

Not a card or paper .... Happy Spring & May Day! My family has the tradition of making and distributing baskets of candy to the neighbors for May Day.  While I'm not making the candy baskets this year, I offered to make Spring decorations for the neighborhood sign posts. I found a great wooden cutout company, Woodpeckers Crafts , that delivered 20 flowers, 10 tulips & 10 daisies, within a few days.  I used my existing outdoor acrylic paints, masking tape and wipees to quickly paint the flowers as colorful Tulips and Gerbera Daisies.  I used a drill press to drill a hole in the tops of the flowers for a metal ring and covered the flowers with Outdoor Mod Podge to protect the wood and paint from the weather. This was a lot of fun, didn't take too long and was a nice break from my normal handmade card crafts.  My next painting project will be cutouts for the 4th of July.   Thanks for poppin' by! The end product.  Painted, shellacked and ready to h...

Magical Unicorn See-Thru Shaker

Here's another cute card for one of my "littles" ... My grandniece turned 2 this year.  I wanted to make her a card with a simple interactive element and shaker cards are the best for that, in my humble opinion ... nothing to move that could tear up the card. 😂  I also wanted to stretch my crafting skills a bit and step it up from normal shaker cards so I decided on making a see-thru shaker.  With that decided, I went to my handy dandy stash of saved and unused Freshly Made Sketches designs and picked #FMS358 .  Next, I looked through the splitcoaststampers.com past color challenges for a "girly" color combo and chose #CC1004 .  Lastly, I looked through my Big Book of Stamps and found the rarely used SSS Magical Birthday set ... I actually think I used this stamp set to dress up the brown wrapping paper on her present last year, hmmm, theme? BTW , my handmade card related hobbies are BUYING stamps and dies, ORGANIZING stamps and dies and USING stamps and dies....
